Jewiss hoping to seal Championship at Brands Hatch
27th September 2018
A memorable 2018 FIA Formula 4 campaign reaches its conclusion for Kiern Jewiss this weekend as the likeable youngster looks to sign off his year in perfect fashion, by claiming the Drivers’ Championship at Brands Hatch.
Heading to his home track boasting a 62 point advantage in the drivers’ standings, the FM Conway sponsored youngster requires just 14 points from the weekend’s three races to claim the coveted title which he has fought so valiantly for all season. The 16-year-old makes the short trip to Brands Hatch looking to add to his impressive record of five wins and fourteen podium finishes from the campaign so far.
The weekend marks the Championship’s second visit to the Kent track this year, although this time on the GP circuit, following the season-opener back in April where Kiern tasted early season success with two podium finishes.
An incredible performance last time out at Silverstone has put the Drivers’ Championship within touching distance for Jewiss but the British driver is remaining level-headed as he heads into one of the most important weekends of his promising career so far.
”The results at Silverstone have put me into an excellent position heading into the season finale. The key for me this weekend is remaining focused on the job at hand. I have to follow the same processes and adopt the same approach that has worked so well for me all year so far.”
Despite a sizeable points advantage, Kiern is under no illusions of the size of the task at hand this weekend.
”Everyone in the championship still has something to fight for and we saw from Silverstone how competitive each race is in British F4 – it was a phenomenal weekend on track all across the grid. Things will be no different this weekend with everyone wanting to go out on a high.”
”The Double R Racing team and the car have been brilliant all year and it has been one of the most enjoyable seasons I’ve had in the sport. We’ve nearly achieved what we set out to all those months ago, but now it’s about trusting in my ability and in my team and putting on one last show this weekend.”
The final race weekend of the 2018 season begins on Saturday morning with the first qualifying session getting underway at 11:35, with the first race beginning at 16:35. Sunday starts with race two at 10:05, with the “Green Arrow” taking to the track for the final time this year at 15:45.
