Kiern Jewiss wins in both races at Buckmore Park
LONDON, 15 June 2015 – The young karting sensation continued to impress at this weekend’s British Championship Super One race at Buckmore Park, taking pole in both races and increasing his Championship lead.
The 12-year-old started in P3 in the Pre-final, and dropped to P7 after bogging down at the start of the race. He then went on an impressive run, picking the other drivers off one by one until he was with the front two. They began to break away, and with 10 laps to go Jewiss successfully made his move for P1, easily leaving the other two drivers behind.
Jewiss came under pressure in the Final. He started in P1, but dropped to P2 at the start after trying to break away from the pack. The six karts behind him quickly closed the gap, making it an 8-kart battle for the lead, during which he dropped back to P7.
Demonstrating why he is the number one, Jewiss clawed his way back to the front and sat in P2 for most of the race.
With 3 laps to go Kiern made his move for P1. Fortunately for Kiern, the biggest overtaking area was now covered by yellow flags because of an incident in the previous lap and he only had too cover the first part of the lap to guarantee his win on the last lap.
Knowing this, he backed the pack up leading into turn 2 so that they jostled for position, taking the pressure away from him and securing his second P1 finish.
Following his two amazing wins at Buckmore Park, Jewiss’ British Championship lead has now been extended to 37 points ahead of his nearest rival.
Kiern Jewiss said: “Fantastic weekend, taking both wins. The win wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Strawberry Racing and my mechanic Tom Fawcett. Also thanks to FreeM for the lucky gloves!!”
This week Jewiss will focus on testing in preparation for the next round of the British Championship at Glan Y Gors, Wales on 26-28 June.
