Kiern Jewiss primed for BRDC British F3 debut weekend
This weekend will see the 2018 British F4 Champion, Kiern Jewiss, take part in his debut race weekend in the BRDC British F3 Championship as the UK’s premier single-seater series gets underway with the first round of the season at Oulton Park.
16-year-old Kiern Jewiss embarks on the next chapter in his career this weekend as he rejoins Douglas Motorsport, with whom he was crowned the 2017 Ginetta Junior Rookie Champion, to begin his maiden campaign in BRDC British F3. The opening round of the championship will take place at Oulton Park this weekend as the series headlines alongside the British GT Championship at the 2.692-mile circuit in Cheshire.
Moving into the quicker Formula 3 car for 2019, Kiern will be using a 2-litre, 230bhp, Tatuus-Cosworth BRDC British F3 Car – a jump of 70bhp compared to last year’s F4 car. The FM Conway supported driver will be part of a sixteen car grid full of international talent this season as he goes head-to-head with the field across the twenty-four race season.
Kiern takes on the new challenge off the back of a sensational record-breaking season last time out which saw the young Brit become the 2018 British F4 Champion with a record number of points and podiums, as well as the largest winning margin in the championship’s history. To top off a strong year, the 16-year-old also became the youngest ever nominee for the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award, a BRDC SuperStar and a member of Motorsport UK’s Team UK.
The Morgan Bros sponsored driver will be hoping that his BRDC British F3 campaign gets off to a strong start this weekend.
“I’m really excited for the season to finally get underway at Oulton Park this weekend. It’s been a long winter break but the team have worked really hard in the off-season to get us into good shape for the season ahead so it should be an exciting and competitive year.”
“Testing has shown how competitive the field is this year and I have two strong teammates with me at Douglas Motorsport. I’m well aware of how challenging this year will be but I’m fully prepared for it and can’t wait to get underway.”
Oulton Park plays host to the opening three races of the BRDC British F3 season this weekend. With qualifying taking place on Saturday morning (20th April) at 11:10, deciding the starting order for the first race on Saturday afternoon at 14:40. The action then resumes on Monday morning (22nd April) with race two at 10:00, which features a full reverse grid and points for overtaking. Finally, race three is scheduled for 14:15, which will feature a new format for the championship, where each driver’s second fastest time from Saturday’s qualifying session will decide the grid line-up for the final race of the round.
