Jewiss looks to wrap up rookie title at Brands Hatch finale

Kiern Jewiss has the destiny of the 2017 Rookie Championship title in his hands this weekend as he heads to back Brands Hatch for the season finale of the Ginetta Junior Championship.

Six-months after it all began, Kiern Jewiss will head back to Brands Hatch to contest the season finale, around the iconic Grand Prix circuit, with the chance to secure the rookie title.  Kiern’s 476 championship points sees him command a healthy 121-point lead over fellow rookie Adam Smalley with three races left to contest.

A successful weekend at Silverstone last time out saw Kiern collect two more rookies as he concluded the weekend with three top-ten finishes to add more championship points to his impressive tally as he controls 4th in the Drivers’ Standings.

Although Kiern mathematically put the rookie title out of Smalley’s grasp at Silverstone, championship points are still provisional until the conclusion of any judicial and technical matters that may incur at Brands Hatch.

The undulating 2.433-mile Brands Hatch circuit is a favourite amongst the fans with a natural amphitheatre offering unrivalled views of the action from various vantage points. For the drivers, the track is demanding with gravel traps providing little room for error and the limited overtaking opportunities make getting the perfect lap in qualifying all the more vital.

Looking ahead to this weekend, Kiern wants to finish his season on a high at Brands Hatch.

“It’s crazy to think we’re already at the end of the season, time has flown by! It’s been a really good, educating season and I hope to end it on a high at Brands this weekend. The rookie title is all but secured so we can go out there with no to lose. Brands is a great track and the type of challenge I enjoy with little room for error.  It will be interesting to see how far I’ve come from when we were last here at the start of the season.”

Barry Mears, Head of the MBP Academy, believes Kiern can round his season off in a positive manner.

“Kiern’s first season, since the transition to cars, has been thoroughly impressive. This weekend is the perfect opportunity to show how far he has come in six-months and I’m sure he’ll be looking to return to the podium at his home race.”

Action this weekend at Brands Hatch gets underway on Friday with the official test sessions. With two races on Saturday and one more following on the Sunday.
